The New York Daily News is reporting that the “winking Jesus” that showed up in Hoboken, NJ last year is still drawing visitors. I don’t get why people show up at these things, isn’t it forbidden in the Top 10 Commandments to worship idols? I’m reading this article and I’m seeing nothing but idol-worship. Winking Jesus? Puhleeze.
Hmm. Seems like there’s a collection of violent video games available that are supposed to encourage ’spiritual warfare’ amongst younger Christians. Man, I just don’t get Christians.
The group Jews for Jesus is currently running some advertising in New York City and apparently not everyone is happy with this. Personally, I think it’s hilarious. Why shouldn’t they use advertising? Some guy in the article is quoted as saying “I personally don’t think religion has any place in advertising…” but I don’t hear him screaming about religion and our government. Whatevs, I say that if you have the budget use whatever advertising you can. Another article about it here.
This old (December 2002!) Popular Mechanics article has been making the rounds on the internets today for some reason. The article claims that British scientists have what they believe to be the most accurate image of Jesus. I think that’s a pretty bold claim to make but the picture seems more real to me than the one that I grew up with (in Mormon churches there is always a picture of Jesus and he has fair skin, light eyes, long straight hair). What do you think?
Cnet has an article titled “Is Jesus the next killer app?” that takes a look at how high tech is transforming the church and maybe even making church interesting. I think it’s great that so much technology is readily available and pretty cheap to boot. Now days even the preachers are giving Powerpoint presentations. Just think about the day when churches employ webcams and you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your own bed to attend church. While some may think that going to church in your underwear is sacreligious I think it’s okay, I can’t recall anytime that Jesus specifically forbade it…
The Stage is reporting that the BBC is making their own Jesus drama and it’s set to be released sometime around Easter 2008. I’m not sure if this will be too late to take advantage of all the recent Jesus stuff that’s been going on but I always welcome new Jesus documentaries.
