Jews for Jesus feeling some heat

Posted in Jesus In The News, Jesus in Print on July 8th, 2006

The group Jews for Jesus is currently running some advertising in New York City and apparently not everyone is happy with this. Personally, I think it’s hilarious. Why shouldn’t they use advertising? Some guy in the article is quoted as saying “I personally don’t think religion has any place in advertising…” but I don’t hear him screaming about religion and our government. Whatevs, I say that if you have the budget use whatever advertising you can. Another article about it here.

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal

Posted in Jesus in Print on April 15th, 2006

With all of the non-fiction Jesus books that are floating around it’s easy to forget that there are some wonderful fiction books about him as well. Take, for instance, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. This is a wonderful book that is told from the perspective of Biff, a friend of Jesus as he was growing up. Christopher Moore is a very talented and funny writer. Initially, I was worried about how this story would be told but as long as you have a sense of humor you don’t really have to worry about anything. There’s not much in the book that would be considered “sacreligious” but it is extremely funny nonetheless. Follow Jesus and his buddy Biff as they go on spiritual quests, invent lattes, and kick some butt when needed. If you’re getting tired of all of the “serious” Jesus stuff that’s around right now, pick this book up. You’ll laugh out loud and wonder why you didn’t buy it sooner.

Jesus versus the Vampires

Posted in Jesus in Print on April 11th, 2006

There’s a new comic book that’s supposed to ship this month titled "Loaded Bible: Jesus vs. Vampires," a 48-page one shot due out on April 20, 2006. Wow! Kick-ass! I’ve always thought that Jesus would be a great underwear pervert and to pit him up against vampires sounds pretty awesome. You can read more about the upcoming release here and it looks like you might be able to order it here.

“The Jesus Dynasty”

Posted in Jesus in Print on April 1st, 2006

“The Jesus Dynasty” is a new book that examines Christianity today and how it might have evolved from Jesus’ vision and the teachings of Paul. Sounds pretty interesting to me…you can read more about it at STLtoday.

What if Jesus survived The Crucifixion?

Michael Baigent, author of “Holy Blood, Holy Grail” has written a new book titled, “The Jesus Papers.” You can read an excerpt from the book over at MSNBC. I’m always skeptical of those that claim to have “proof” of things that may or may not have happened thousands of years ago but still, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Donald Miller has written a book titled “Blue Like Jazz” in which he breaks down the Christian stereotypes and finds his own relationship with Jesus. Actually sounds like a great read. Read more about it here at TheNewsTribune.
