Jesus and tech

Posted in Jesus In The News on April 28th, 2006

Cnet has an article titled “Is Jesus the next killer app?” that takes a look at how high tech is transforming the church and maybe even making church interesting. I think it’s great that so much technology is readily available and pretty cheap to boot. Now days even the preachers are giving Powerpoint presentations. Just think about the day when churches employ webcams and you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your own bed to attend church. While some may think that going to church in your underwear is sacreligious I think it’s okay, I can’t recall anytime that Jesus specifically forbade it…

BBC planning their own big-budget Jesus drama

Posted in Jesus In The News, Jesus in The Arts on April 26th, 2006

The Stage is reporting that the BBC is making their own Jesus drama and it’s set to be released sometime around Easter 2008. I’m not sure if this will be too late to take advantage of all the recent Jesus stuff that’s been going on but I always welcome new Jesus documentaries.

Scary-Ass Clowns for Jesus

Posted in Jesus In The News on April 26th, 2006

Is it just me or does the kid in this picture of a “Clown for Jesus” look like he’s about to punch the clown and run? I can’t say that I blame him. I can think of better ways of getting kids to recite Bible verses than getting a scary clown to hover nearby. Sheesh, I get the shivers every time I look at this. I’ve wondered where my fear of clowns comes from and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus and a clown killed my dad.

Jesus Wall

Posted in The Image of Jesus on April 24th, 2006

The little town of Chiquinquira, Columbia, has put itself on the map because a woman has found Jesus in her wall. The image of Jesus appeared during the week of Easter and the Vatican is sending out experts to take a look at the wall. This Jesus wall is not to be confused with the other Jesus wall that I wrote about.

I have a sort of Jesus sighting category that may also interest you.

Walk Me Down (Sweet Jesus)

Posted in Jesus On The Web on April 24th, 2006

Reader Barfly points us to a drink that is named Walk Me Down (Sweet Jesus). Has anyone ever had one of these? If so, is it any good? What other Jesus drinks do you know about? If there are enough out there we might have to add a new category to the site…

ACLU Hatin’ on Jesus again.

Posted in Jesus In The News on April 21st, 2006

The ACLU are at it again, this time wanting a picture of Jesus removed from a school. Unlike the last time I wrote about them I have to agree on this one. Institutions should be free of any sort of religious crap strewn about, unless those institutions happen to be religious in nature like a Catholic school or something. Otherwise, always seperate the Church from State. Period.

I previously wrote about the ACLU here.

Jesus Underwear

Posted in Jesus In The News on April 20th, 2006

The Khaleej Times is reporting that some store is selling underwear with bible verses printed on them and the names of God and Jesus are visible (as in "For God so loved the world…). I have to ask, has Jesus become some sort of turn-on for people? I’m trying to understand why there would be underwear with printed bible verses. I can think of two reasons although neither one of them makes much sense.

The come-on could be for people that are turned on by seeing or reading bible verses. While I’ve never encountered this fetish in person I’m sure that such a thing must exist. Why do I say that? Well, if you can think it then somebody else already has and set up a webcam to show everyone else how erotic it is. Anyway, if the intention of printing bible verses on underwear is to heighten sexual arousal in certain individuals I think it fails. You have to remove the underwear in order to have sex, thus removing said bible verses from the field of vision. I think that if you’re trying to sell a product to this crowd it needs to be more along the lines of a pair of glasses with some text on the inside of the lenses that only the wearer can read. Problem solved for scripture fetishists.

The only other reason I can think of to print bible verses on underwear is to provide some sort of protection to the wearer. The problem I have with this though is that only your genitals are protected. What good does that do you if you happen to like having a head or arms? While I understand the want for protection I think this sort of thing is only good as extra protection. In order for the holy underwear to provide extra protection you must be wearing outer clothes with bible verses printed on them as well and as far as I can tell you wouldn’t be able to wear short sleeves. Also, your head would have to be completely covered and this would make it difficult to see. Unless you cut holes in your holy garment and wore the glasses that I talked about earlier.
